Yellowstone National Park - with beautiful and otherworldly pictures

Do you know what mud pots and fumaroles are?
Yellowstone National Park in the United States was one of the places on my must-see list. It is actually an active super volcano with beautiful and otherworldly landscapes. It may erupt in any foreseeable future!
Its geological features consist of geysers, hot springs, thermal pools, thermophiles (a.k.a. geothermal bacteria), bubbling mud pots, fumaroles and other things, many of which are beyond my knowledge scope and comprehension. I could never have dreamed such a fascinating place until I saw it, even in snowstorms.
I hope you will also enjoy the journey through my photos.
(More photos will be added to this set in the next few days. Welcome to come back to see more later.)
The first thing you will notice at Mammoth Hot Springs is the terraced travertine hills which are largely the deposit of calcium carbonate. The geothermal algae add the interestings colors to the limestones.
Canary Spring is a part of Mammoth Hot Springs. I would have loved to hike the trail but unfortuately this wish had to be delayed until I visit it again in the future.
In the spring, hungry elks like to frequent the sagebrush meadows and even the roads and parking lots.
Mammoth Hot Springs
Because I was visiting Yellowstone early in the year and before the tourist season, the weather was very changeable.
Usually the morning started with sunshine and blue sky, it became overcast and started to rain. Shortly afterwards, the rain would change to snow and snowstorm with gust wind. After the snowstorm it would be hail. At the end of the end, it would be beautiful sunset.
I have no regrets in visiting Yellowstone during its quiet season. It allowed me to opportunity to see the natural wonder with different looks and photographic opportunities. When the geysers were erupting with roaring gust wind and snowstorm, the wild natural sceneries made you feel you were on an true adventure.

The Upper Geyser Basin
I almost missed the opportunity to see the Upper Geyser Basin due to severe weather conditions. There was a snowstorm with gust wind. The trail was closed. However I saw a man on the trail with two crutches under his arms in the blizzard. I thought, if he could be on the trail, so could I. If it was not for him, I would not have had these photos. Thank you, whomever you were.
Many people visit the Upper Geyser Basin because of the famous Old Faithful Geyser. However, there are plenty of smaller and equally interesting geothermal beauties which will catch your attention. You will find some examples below.

You have some awesome photographs. They inspire me!
You are a wonderful photographer! If you do not mind, I would like to link this to the hub I did about algae and bacteria creating amazing colors in Yellowstone. Since you saw it a different time of the year, I think that it would really add a nice perspective. We visited Yellowstone in the summertime. Let me know... Thanks!
Thanks! Will link it to my hub now.
